Here in Chamonix, France, you are not required to wear a mask when enjoying the outdoors, this includes open terrace areas.  So PERFECT for the many fabulous places to eat in the valley.  We have drawn up a list of our favourites below.

In pt.1 we discuss the terraces in central Chamonix, easily accessed on foot from our most poular Chalets: Valhalla & Tissourds, as well as our romantic Brigitte's & Stephen's mazots.

Chamonix : Terraces summer 2020

Le Jardin du Goûter (Hotel Oustalet, Chamonix)
330 rue du Lyret, 74400, Chamonix / tel: 04 50 55 54 99

Le Jardin du Gouter is a tea room near the Aiguille du Midi with a large green lawn outside of the Hotel L'Oustalet. The cakes are a yummy treat and this is quiet spot when Chamonix Sud is feeling too crowded at peak lunch time hours.

Telecabine (Chamonix)
27 Rue de la Tour, 74400, Chamonix / tel : 04 50 47 04 66

This is the restaurant where I was engaged so holds a special place in my heart…its terrace also holds a special place right in the heart of Chamonix near Park Couttet. This is a popular spot for business lunches with its modern french cuisine and classy style.

La Folie Douce (Chamonix)
Former Club Med, 823 Allée Recteur Payot, 74400, Chamonix / tel: 04 50 55 10 00

La Folie Douce is a modern complex well thought-out and alluring for families: several restaurants on-site, with food huts on a large terrace . . . there are also plenty of activities for youngsters on-site: beach volleyball, trampolines and slackline, a climbing wall and small accrobranche, pétanque and Mölkky, and some chill-out spots in shade or sun to suit your preference.

Le Hameau Albert 1er (Chamonix)
44 Route du Bouchet, 74400 Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, tel : 04 50 53 00 03

Their garden area is the ideal place to bask in the alpine sun while sipping a drink facing the mountains, or to contemplate the vege-garden with all its fruits and aromatic herbs used by famous Chefs’ at the two restaurants on site. This venue is more suited to adults with a taste for jazz and good taste in fine dining.

Maison Carrier (Chamonix)
44 Route du Bouchet, 74400 Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, Tel: 04 50 53 05 09

One of the restaurants of the Hameau Albert 1er is known for its modern and perfectionist approach to traditional haute-savoie cuisine. This particular restaurant has a wonderful terrace area, but you will certainly need to book in advance for their reputation is world renowned.

Chalet Hôtel Hermitage (Chamonix)
63 chemin du Cé, 74400, Chamonix / tel: 04 50 53 13 87

The Chalet Hôtel Hermitage has been run by the same family since 1920, here you’ll also find a salon de thé for cake with an alpine garden, both open to non-hotel guests for drinks (a great secret!).

Neapolis (Chamonix)
79 Galerie Alpina, 74400, Chamonix / tel: 04 50 53 98 41

For tasty pizza and pasta on a breezy terrace by the Arve river, this is the place to be. The restaurant is small so be sure to book in advance. We recommend the rigatoni vodka pasta (pictured below).

La Crèmerie des Aiguilles (Les Gaillands)

This little crèmerie has a new secure play area for little ones, located right next to Lac des Gaillands and the woods. Enjoy the views, a sweet treat and some strolls.

Le Vert Hotel (Les Gaillands)
964 Route des Gaillands, 74400 Chamonix-Mont-Blanc / tel: 06 47 26 76 43

The hotel was recently taken over by the owner of “Blue Bird” café in Chamonix Sud. Here they have maximised the outdoor space, particularity by creating an outdoor bar in the back.

Le (Swiss Family) Robinson (Bois du Bouchet, Chamonix)

Le Robinson appears to have changed hands again for this summer season, and it is now up and running! This restaurant has a lovely location in the Bois du Bouchet and offers: a covered outdoor terrace, a playground for children, a treehouse, pétanque, volley ball and other games.

Crèmerie du la Montagne
789 promenade des Crèmeries, 74400, Chamonix / tel: 06 18 03 79 36
