What many people do not realise is that Chamonix has been a draw for summer holidays for much longer than the mere 100 years that it has been a ski resort. We offer our chalets and apartments all year round. Chamonix's extraordinary and unique setting at the foot of Mont Blanc has attracted visitors since the eighteenth century when visits by Goethe and Saussure brought the valley to the attention of the population at large.
In the summer Chamonix becomes a lush green valley, when the snow is gone footpaths appear dotted with alpine plants and flowers; the sun glances off the deep azure blues of the lakes and rivers, and picks out the gleaming white peaks along the Mont Blanc range. This is the perfect backdrop to a summer holiday, whether you just want a leisurely break in stunning surroundings or you prefer to be a little more active.
For those who do prefer to be active, there is certainly no lack of choice when it comes to finding something to do - from a walk up the glaciers to a game of tennis or squash down in the town. Or how about the Tour du Mont Blanc?
The list is endless and includes riding, white water rafting, kayaking, swimming, canyoning, climbing , cycling, mountain biking, hang-gliding, paragliding, free wheeling go-karts to name but a few, and all these are found locally.
For the golfers amongst you there are several stunning Alpine courses in and around Chamonix, not least the Chamonix 18 hole golf course which must have one of the most beautiful summer views in the Alps. It is situated in Les Praz, 3km from Chamonix and 5km from Argentière.
There are also many exciting summer events that are hosted in Chamonix.
Late August is The Ultra Trail of Mont Blancwhich starts and finishes in Chamonix, a 166km endurance course taking in 3 countries and 7 valleys. There is general celebration in the valley with concerts, barbecues and general merry making aimed at encouraging the runners.
If none of the above tempt you, there is always the possibility of hiking over to Switzerland, via Vallorcine, or fishing in local torrents and lakes. Otherwise day trips to Annecy or Martigny (Switzerland) can easily be arranged from Chamonix, and how about pampering yourself at the Pre Saint Didier spa where there are thermal baths, just across the border in Italy. For all these trips there are buses or trains that leave Chamonix in the morning and will bring you back in time for dinner.
Whether you are looking to climb Mont Blanc or just to have a gentle round of golf, our network of guides and representatives will be on hand to give you suggestions and provide solutions. View our selection of chalets and apartments in Chamonix to find your ideal summer base.
